Learning the essentials of academic drawing

DESCRIPTION: Ken believes learning good drawing skills is absolutely essential for artists. In Drawing Foundations he introduces the basics of academic drawing from life by teaching 'drawing metrics' — how artists make measurements to heighten accuracy and realism. This is fundamental to realism as well as contemporary styles. An intensive workshop that includes an intro to materials usage; equipment selection; basic drawing techniques (including proportional, comparative, sight-size); lines & solids; values; measuring; etc.. Features demos, hands-on painting, one-on-one, critique, handouts and talks.

DESCRIPTION: Knife painting (a.k.a. 'palette' knife painting) focuses on alla prima application of paint in simplified sheets of textured colour. Ken's approach pays special attention to seeing subject as simplified shapes, developing simultaneous contrasts, and developing textured strokes to evoke natural effects. Demos and one-on-one guiding students through step-by-step creation of paintings in oils on canvas. Features demos, hands-on painting, one-on-one, critique, handouts and talks.
